Meet Julian Tully IWN’s South East Water Champion

Meet Julian Tully, a cricket playing, lifelong Melbourne resident who loves exploring natural wonders like the pink lakes of the Mallee, the Eyre Peninsula, and Tasmania. As the Technical Director for Civil and Environmental Engineering at South East Water, Julian brings nearly 30 years of industry experience to his role, where he helps ensure the delivery of healthy water, supports industry innovation, and mentors the next generation of engineers.

LET’S START WITH THE PERSONAL - TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF

I have lived in Melbourne all my life – it scores well as a place to live! . I like road trip travel to places of natural beauty such as the pink lakes of the mallee, the Eyre Peninsula and Tasmania.

A recent personal achievement was winning the club Over 50s F grade bowling average in my first ever season of competitive cricket.

WHAT’S YOUR CURRENT WATER CORPORATION ROLE?

Technical Director for Civil and Environmental Engineering, which was a new role created in 2022.

WHAT’S YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND?

I have been in Victorian Water Industry for nearly 30 years, working mostly in consulting, but have worked for a construction contractor and two water corporations.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO EACH DAY (BUT TO YOUR GRANDMA)?

I contribute to SEW’s purpose to deliver healthy water for life for our customers, community and environment. I help grow the skills of our people, improve our technical documentation, and solve problems.

WHY DID YOU JOIN IWN?

I joined IWN to learn more about IWN, industry trends and new innovations. I joined IWN’s Champions program in 2023 and am now just over half way through the two year program.
