Meet Erinne Carey IWN’s Lower Murray Water Champion

Hailing from the picturesque landscapes of South Australia's Mallee region, Erinne moved to Mildura to work at Lower Murray Water in 2018. When Erinne is not immersed in the world of corporate services, you'll likely find her spending time with the family, stitching away on a sewing project, exploring the vibrant world of gin distilleries, or dancing to the beats of live bands.

LET’S START WITH THE PERSONAL - TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF

I’m originally from South Australia having grown up on a broadacre farming property in the Mallee.  I moved across to Mildura in 2017, and commenced working at Lower Murray Water in 2018.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my son, family and friends.  I enjoy hobbies that would have made my grandma proud of; sewing and crocheting, as well as visiting gin distilleries and reading a good book or seeing live bands.

This year my biggest personal achievement feels like getting a ticket to see Taylor Swift at her Era’s tour!

WHAT’S YOUR CURRENT WATER CORPORATION ROLE?

Currently I am the Acting Manager Organisational Performance, but my substantive role is Team Leader Corporate Services and I have been in that role since 2021.

WHAT’S YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND?

My professional background is law – with a focus on property law and contracts, as well as insurance, governance, and corporate reporting.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO EACH DAY (BUT TO YOUR GRANDMA)?

Everyday can vary greatly which is why I love both the water sector and working at Lower Murray Water in the Corporate Services Team.  During one day I can go from working on complex legal matters; to drafting a lease; to a meeting on a heritage listed building LMW are responsible for and then helping a staff member make their fuel card work!  It is never boring that is for sure.

WHY DID YOU JOIN IWN?

I have became involved with IWN in 2020, during COVID lockdowns, because it provided great networking opportunities and to learn more about the water industry.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH IWN?

For the industry?

More exposure for LMW as an organisation.

For yourself?

Development and networking opportunities.

WHAT GETS YOU OUT OF BED IN THE MORNING?

My family, and knowing that I work in an industry that makes a difference and supports the community in something as critical as water.
