Melbourne Water Confined Space Simulator

A new Confined Space Entry Simulator could be a game-changer for training in the water sector. Here’s a summary of the simulator and details on its availability for the Victorian water industry.

Melbourne Water has continued its long-standing partnership with Deakin University to design and build a Confined Space Entry Simulator that aims to change the way people perceive mandatory training forever.

This project was initiated after realising that entering a sewer network through manhole entries had become a normalised process without adequate consideration of the associated risks.

The simulator puts the greatest emphasis on the planning and preparation steps required to complete a safe entry into a confined space.

The simulator covers the following key planning elements:

• Work order planning

• Risk assessment training and completion

• Scheduling work with operations and other relevant authorities

• Rescue planning

• Operations monitoring

How to access the simulator

This technology is now available to the Victorian water sector for training and awareness sessions. If you or your organisation are interested in exploring this fantastic opportunity, please email michael.mcgrath@melbournewater.com.au
