Meet the Champion: Fergal Rabette from Gippsland Water
2019 - Champion Fergal Rabette from Gippsland Water is fairly new to the water industry but is keen to get going with IWN. You can read all about Fergal in this most recent IWN Q&A.
Can you give us a bit of your personal background?
I moved to Australia in 2001 and settled in Melbourne as I enjoyed its multicultural society, mild winters, warm summers, fishing, snow sports, outdoor activities and the Victorians ‘can do’ attitude towards innovation and problem solving.
And what is your professional background?
I completed studying a Diploma of Civil Engineering (Structural) at Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton Street, Ireland in 1998. Over the past 20 years I have worked in both the private and public sectors the water, transport and building industries.
I recently commenced with Gippsland Water as the Senior Asset Engineering Leader. Previous to my current role, I held two roles Latrobe City Council as the Coordinator Major Projects and Building Maintenance and the Coordinator Civil Works Projects.
What inspired you to want to become a champion?
I am excited about the opportunity to make contact with and work alongside industry leaders to improve Gippsland Waters approach to Asset Management.
What IWN program interests you the most?
The Asset Management and Optimisation Program.
What are you hoping to get out of your new role?
I am hoping to stay abreast of current innovations and methodologies for optimal asset management, bringing my learnings and ideas back to Gippsland Water and the broader industry.
